House inside a Hill

This "house inside of a hill" is called 'Villa Vals' and is in Switzerland. This was built as a design solution seeing that they could not obstruct the view of the Bath of Vals located extremely near by. So why not just build into the ground? I think a winter stay here might be added to my bucket list.
